The shift in priorities: work-life balance takes center stage

Remote workers spoke: their priorities are shifting and work is no longer on top.

Through our survey, we uncovered all the challenges that remote companies, specifically managers, have in managing remote teams. For starters, work is no longer a priority for remote workers. Workers love that remote work has allowed them to prioritize what’s important for them but, what happens when great work still needs to be done? How can companies, and more specifically managers, motivate teams and employees to do their best work?

Our report provides a roadmap for companies and managers that want to do precisely that.

Self-development is key

While work is no longer the priority, there’s one thing our survey shows workers are interested in: self-development. You could already see it at number two above, but when we're talking only about work, it’s the number one priority. Workers are very interested in growing their skills and advancing their careers, and that’s one area where companies can focus to keep their teams motivated and engaged.

But, are companies doing that? Not quite...

Index (30)

Only 37% of the surveyed workers report that their companies offer a learning stipend.

Index (31)

Only 19% of the companies that state their benefits at We Work Remotely offer a learning stipend.

Your roadmap

Here's the good news, with this report, we're also looking to help a key part of any remote team: managers.

Part-time cheerleaders, coaches, and problem-solvers, managers must strive to build a positive, productive environment where independent work blossoms into collective success.

Managers are key and that's why this report offers a roadmap for managers, including information on what managers are currently excelling at and what they can be working on to be better managers.
